  • 1. David Craig Parrott was born on 17 Mar 1846 in Bradford, England and died on 24 Aug 1927 in Boone Co., Nebraska at age 81. {FGID: 16052376}

    General Notes: David Parrott was born in Bradford, England, March 17, 1846, and departed this life Augugst 24 1927 at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 7 days. In 1848, following the death of his father, the family came to Hoosic Falls, N.Y., later moved to Marquette, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. On January 5, 1868, he was married to Mrs. Thomas Burn, who preceded him in death, October 18, 1922. To this union 10 children were born, all of whom survive him except one son, David, who died April 21, 1913; 17 grandchildren, all living except Gene Kiester, who died April 14, 1918, and 16 great grandchildren.

    In June 1872, he emigrated to Nebraska and settled on a homestead in Voorhees Valley, 6 miles north of St. Edward, where he experienced all the hardships of winning a home in this fertile valley. In 1880 he united with the Presbyterian church in St. Edward and on moving to Albion in 1903 he transferred his membership to the Congregational, of which he has since been a loyal member. He leaves to mourn six sons, one step-son and three daughters: John and Robert of St. Edward, Gene of Hollywood, Calif., William of Mason City, Iowa, Frank and Jesse of Salt Lake City, Utah, George of Albion, Mrs. David Craig and Mrs. Bryant Kiester of Albion, and Mrs. George Stillinger of Spearfish, S.D.

    The passing of Mr. Parrott removes one of the land marks, a pioneer of real worth. The character of such men is what made its impress on the community and made this the good safe place in which to live. The character of the children he raised shows the impress of the father, so they make their homes and continue the good work their father taught them. If we had more such people there would be no need of penal institutions; lfe would be a joy. He lived to a ripe old age, loved and respected by all who him.

    The funeral was from his late residence on Fifth street, Saturday afternoon, August 27, conducted by Rev. B.J. Trickey of Spencer, Iowa, his former pastor, assisted by D.J. Poynter, an old friend of the family. The songs renderered by D.G. Howell, M.B. Krause, C.A. Bull and John Papez were beautiful and added much to the impressiveness of the service. The casket was carried by six stalwart sons, a scene not very common. The floral tribute was large and a real paradise of beauty. The burial was in the St. Edward cemetery beside the grave of his good wife who preceded him nearly five years ago.

    The family of Mr. Parrott desire to thank their friends of their kindliness and sympathy and for the many floral tributes.
